Maldegem is in East Flanders, south of Sluis, on the Damse Vaart. It is the natural turning point for anyone heading from Sluis into the Belgian hinterland.
From our shop in Sluis: about 18 km.
The area
The Damse Vaart links Sluis with Bruges and runs past Maldegem. The towpath along the canal is dead straight and lined with poplars on both sides.
The landscape here is greener and more enclosed than the Zeeland sea polders.
